In summer semester 2011 music student Maximilian Lörzer founded a female ensemble of about 30 singers at the institute for psychology at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. Till this day the choir's name honours this root. Soon male singers got interested and the ensemble grew into a mixed choir of nearly 80 members. In June 2012 the choir founded a charitable organisation "Psycho-Chor der FSU Jena e.V.". Due to a large crush a maximum number of 80 singers was defined in 2012. Since October 2011 the choir is supported by students of Weimar's Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in voice training and sectional rehearsals.
Every semester the choir rehearses a new program that is presented at several concerts in & around Jena. The locations for those concerts include the Volksbad and Volkshaus Jena, various churches in Thuringia and Jena. Every semester those concerts bring together about 1000 enthusiastic concert-goers. If you are lucky you might even catch the choir at a street singing in Jena's city centre. Additionally the Psycho-Choir time and again organizes joint concerts with other choirs. The first concert of this sort tool place in May 2014 together with the Bolongaro-Sextett and the Hessian Soundbites, who stepped by on their way to the German Choir Competition in Weimar. This cooperation went so well that a similar joint project with zimmmt! followed in June 2015 in Jena and Berlin.
