The Psycho-Choir of the FSU Jena is a powerful, young and modern student a cappella ensemble at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, which organizes striking vocal-pop concerts every semester. Basically, any young person, regardless of place of residence or professional status, who would like to join a student troupe can sing along.
With over 8 million views, we are one of the largest German choirs on Youtube.
In the summer semester of 2011, the then music student Maximilian Lörzer founded a choir at the Institute of Psychology at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, which gave its first concerts in January 2012 under the project name "Psycho-Choir", which was later registered as an association. Each semester the Psycho-Choir rehearses a new program, which is presented at the end of the semester in various elaborate concerts in Jena, the surrounding area of Thuringia and beyond.
The concerts of the Psycho-Choir Jena inspire several thousand concertgoers every year. Joint concerts with other choirs or artists from all over Germany are on the program, as well as the organization of various events to which the Psycho-Choir is regularly invited.
In 2015, 2019 and 2020 the Psycho-Choir Jena produced its first three CDs. In October 2016 the choir hosted a big concert under the direction of Maximilian Lörzer with guest choirs from Amiens (France) and Kraków (Poland), as well as a children's choir, a band and soloists in Weimar. In October 2017 and March 2021 the return visits to Amiens and Kraków followed and will continue.
In March 2018, the Psycho Choir sang in front of 2,800 people in the Lincoln Center during a New York trip at a concert to which they had been invited by acappella arranger Deke Sharon ("Pitch Perfect"). During this trip another concert was held in front of numerous members of the UN Parliamentary Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, at the invitation of the German Consul General in New York.
Since its foundation in 2011 Maximilian Lörzer has been the choir director and since 2012 he is also chairman of the board of the association.
In April 2018 he was named Thuringian of the Month by the Thuringian Volunteer Foundation.
In December 2018 he was awarded the Dexel scholarship by the city of Jena for his work.
Since 2019 Maximilian Lörzer is vice president of the Chorverband Thüringen.
On the 26th of march 2012, the non-profit association "Psycho-Choir of the FSU Jena e.V." was founded from the choir. Since the fifth of June 2012 it is registered at the district court Jena under the registration number VR 231520.
